THINGS WHICH MAY HAPPEN TO YOUR BODY WHEN COLD WEATHER COME
1. Goosebumps
Goosebumps are most common in the upper arm, legs, buttocks, chest, and neck area. Goosebumps are actually the body's defense mechanisms in mammals to cope with cold weather. This happens because of the piloerection so that it makes the hair on the surface of your body standing. Piloerection is a sympathetic nervous system reaction that causes certain muscles to contract and make the hair on the surface of the skin standing.
2. A runny nose
Cold and dry air causes difficulty for your lungs. Your nose wants to moisturize.
3. Face flushed
Cheeks, ears, and noses are reddened by blood flow diverted to more vital areas such as liver or lung organ. As the body warms up, redness in the face will disappear and blood flow can be normal again.
4. The fingers shrink
Cold air constricts the flow of blood to maintain body temperature and maintain body center temperature. If the fingers or toes look smaller it is caused by the blood flow to the area only slightly.
5. Pain in fingers and toes
Some parts of the body such as hands and legs are paralyzed or numbed when exposed to cold or stressful air. This is caused by the arteries that supply blood to the skin narrows because it responds to cold water. It is harmless, but it can make you feel pain.
6. The body burns more calories
When the air is cold, calories burned will increase. The body needs more calories to keep the body warm. You may also feel hungry and want to eat more. This happens because your body calories have been used more as well.
7. Greater risk of heart attack
Cold weather can be extreme as experienced by those living in a four-season country. They may have a greater risk of heart attack. Usually, this is experienced by older people, but this should be our concern. As the body tries to stay warm, the heart increases its pressure. The heart must work harder to pump blood to the fingertips. It also increases blood pressure.
8. The nipples harden
In cold weather, the nipples of both men and women are often hardened and prominent. Experts do not know why this is happening, but experts suspect this is due to cold weather as it does on the feathers on the skin surface when it feels goosebumps.
Each individual reacts differently to cold. Some have more sensors in the ear that can measure the level of coldness while others have more sensors in other body parts. The number of sensors can also vary. If the body temperature drops below 30 degrees Celsius, consequently a number of important organs of the body can stop functioning. Consequently, the person may lose consciousness, experience hypothermia or even death. This is the reason why the human body immediately sends a warning signal when the body temperature decreases.
